“No one prepares you for a journey quite like this one. This journey is humbling. Overwhelmingly hard and overwhelmingly exciting. Each week of tissue expansion is full of highs and lows. The fear, the grief, the sadness, and the anxiety. Learning that it takes strength, courage, and grace to navigate this journey. And most importantly it’s in these moments-these beautifully painful moments- we have learned that the stares and questions are what we can use to raise awareness. It’s the realization that we aren’t inspiring others because we have perfect lives. We are inspiring people with how we deal with our perfectly imperfect lives. It’s the realization that we are blessed with the little wildflower among a field of roses. Some days it storms, and some days it shines. This is how flowers grow. And it’s time to bloom.”
